The event centered around the theme of Innovation & Communication, bringing together industry leaders, local authorities, and creative thinkers to explore how technology and storytelling are reshaping the utilities and highways sector.

The day kicked off with an inspiring keynote from Blind Ambition, whose powerful message about overcoming adversity and pushing boundaries set the tone for a day of bold ideas and fresh perspectives. Their story was a reminder that innovation often begins with challenging the status quo and believing in what’s possible.

SRL and BUKO Digital Traffic Management showcased cutting-edge solutions in traffic control and digital infrastructure, highlighting how smart systems and real-time data are transforming road safety and efficiency. Their presentations sparked lively discussions on the future of connected highways and the role of digital communication in keeping communities informed and safe.

1Spatial brought a geospatial twist to the conversation, demonstrating how location data can be leveraged to improve planning, reduce disruption, and enhance collaboration across stakeholders. Their insights into data-driven decision-making underscored the importance of clear, accurate communication in complex environments.

A standout moment came from West Sussex County Council, who shared their innovative approaches to public engagement and project transparency. Their work illustrated how local authorities can lead the way in building trust through open dialogue and inclusive communication strategies.

Adding a touch of humour and creativity, one speaker explored the re-invention of toilet paper on Eurostar—a quirky yet surprisingly insightful take on how even the most mundane products can benefit from thoughtful design and storytelling. It was a reminder that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about reimagining everyday experiences.

The event was generously sponsored by Sunbelt Rentals, whose presentation went beyond business to highlight their community outreach initiatives. From supporting local charities to empowering young people through skills training, their stories were heart-warming and a testament to the power of corporate responsibility.

Overall, SEHAUC’s “Innovation & Communication” event was a celebration of progress, creativity, and collaboration. It left attendees energized, informed, and ready to embrace new ways of thinking in the ever-evolving world of utilities and highways.

Sadly, it was Alison Hews’ last event as organiser and is stepping down as SEHAUC Treasurer – she has been truly amazing for SEHAUC and will be greatly missed.

The SEHAUC Event is looking to be back in 2027 for certain, but hopefully in 2026 if time allows!
