As reported by Highways Magazine, the Department for Transport (DfT) is planning to launch a consultation this summer on the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice. The consultation will inform a redraft of the guidance, which was last updated in 2013.
The review, being led by Arup and AECOM, has taken longer than initially anticipated. While the industry had expected a draft to be published in 2024, this did not materialise. The forthcoming consultation will allow for wider industry engagement, helping to ensure the revised guidance is fit for purpose.
DfT officials have indicated that the updated Code of Practice could be published in early 2027.
