Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) are excited to announce that LCRIG is partnering with Academia Member Askham Bryan College, to develop a new Highways Academy in Yorkshire.
Building on the success of our first academy project with Salford City College, this initiative marks another step in expanding the highways academy model across the UK. It supports our mission to tackle the growing skills shortage in the highways sector and help develop a future-ready, skilled workforce.
Bringing the Academy to Life – How You Can Support
Askham Bryan College will welcome its first cohort of apprentices in April 2026. To bring this exciting project to life, we’re calling on our members and industry partners to support the project.
- Here are a few ways you can support:
- Help create a dedicated practical training area on college campus
- Contribute time, materials, equipment, or technical expertise
- Assist with apprentice recruitment – a few places remain for the 2026 intake
- Help recruit a highways tutor – the college is currently seeking an industry-experienced educator to lead the programme
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting impact. With limited resources, the college is seeking practical support from organisations ready to invest in social value and long-term community benefit.
