The Barriers to Decarbonising Roads Sandbox (BDRS), delivered by Safetytech Accelerator with led by North Lanarkshire Council and Transport for West Midlands, in partnership with Amey and Colas Amey. The Sandbox set out to answer a critical question: if innovative low-carbon materials work, why aren’t they widely used?
This showcase will reveal the outcomes, impact, and next steps from this first-of-its-kind initiative, which explored barriers across regulation, procurement and culture. Attendees will gain insight into the innovations in the programme, from recycled plastic to self-healing concrete, and the lessons learned around how to deploy these solutions in the UK.
The event will highlight the tangible impact of the sandbox approach, the role of the Centre of Excellence for Decarbonising Roads, and the roadmap for accelerating innovation uptake.
