Birmingham City Council have a vacancy for a Network Inspector
The Role
Birmingham is in an unprecedented period of transformational change. As a consequence of the City’s economic growth, regeneration and transformation there has been a significant increase in street works activity on our highway network. It is anticipated that there will be further major utility works, new developments, and transportation projects over the coming years in order to accommodate future growth.
The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Network Management and Highway Approvals Team. They will assist the Network Managers in the monitoring and inspection of on street activities inline with the Network Management Duty. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the following legislation New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and The Highways Act 1980; and take a lead role in ensuring that Streetworks Permits and Traffic Management Applications are in accordance with the agreed permit conditions and Traffic management is complaint with Safety at street works code of practice.
The postholder will report to one of the teams Network Managers. As part of their day-to-day duties, they will be site based with an allocated workload to visit specific works and assess the sites to ensure compliance. They will also be on the lookout for any illegal occupation of the highway and report and log accordingly. Working closely with the Highways Approvals Officers, they will ensure that Activity Promoters are adhering to their permit conditions and ensure the effective operation of Birmingham’s Permit Scheme.
